Trinity Safe Zone Member Program
The Trinity Safe Zone Member Program is Trinity's visible support network for the LGBTQ community.
The Trinity College Safe Zone Member Program
The campus community is invited to sign up for the web-based Safe Zone Member Training* called LGBTQ+ Foundations & Allyship offered through the Queer Resource Center. All campus employees and students are welcome and encouraged to complete this web-course to gain a baseline understanding of LGBTQIA+ concepts, experiences, needs, and campus resources.
*Upon completion, participants may choose whether or not to join the Safe Zone Member Program.
In addition to this online learning program, in person training sessions to go deeper into personal allyship practice and understanding will also be available to faculty, staff, and student leaders through the Queer Resource Center.
The mission of the Trinity College Safe Zone Member program is to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) people at Trinity College. The main goals of Safe Zone trainings on college campuses are to educate and promote the need for affirmation, equality, and support for your campus LGBTQ+ and to provide all campus individuals with the allyship skills and resource knowledge to support this population.
Trinity’s Safe Zone program was initiated in the Spring of 2000 by the Women & Gender Resource Action Center (WGRAC) and is now a campus wide LGBTQ diversity program offered by the Trinity Queer Resource Center. Since its inception hundreds of faculty, staff, and students have participated in campus Safe Zone trainings and joined the program by displaying a Safe Zone sticker on their personal office or residence hall door as symbol of program membership.
